I came to college thinking I was going to be isolated in my room. Throughout these first weeks I have been balancing out both my personal and academic life. Besides working at HomeDepot as a part time cashier I am a full time student at Sacramento StateUniversity. What has surprised me the most is the amount of work. I have a total of four classes and I attend school three times a week, but surprisingly I am not overwhelmed. I also thought I’d be missing home a lot and fortunately I have parents who travel two hours to visit me every now and then.
College has been an amazing experience! My first semester ends next week, Friday, December 19th. All of my professors are extremely intelligent. I believe I chose the perfect campus as of now. At this time, I am worried about not getting the classes I need for Spring semester. This coming week I will be studying for finals since they are approaching rapidly.
Three, going on four months of college I have learned a few things about myself. Most of high school I was attentive towards Prom duties and now I truly get to focus on my responsibilities. I love the fact that I have been given the chance to meet individuals of all races. Diversity is important to me because it reminds me of back home. Living on my own is also a tremendous factor in my life at this time. I am appreciative of the little I have because it gets me through day by day.
Lastly, I am on my way to being independent. I learned that I should not only depend on my parents. At the beginning of the semester I would be alone on the daily because my roommate would either have class or work. I decided to do something productive with my life; I chose to work. So far, I have met people of all ages which I find pretty cool. I am also, used to being in the Sacramento area. When I go back home to visit I feel out of place and want to come home. I have learned that it is okay to be away from family and dear friends in order to explore and become open minded socially.
Words can not describe how thankful I am for the college lifestyle. Being busy after all is not as hard as one would think. Anything and everything is possible. I learned that my senior year. If I could graduate with honors while being class president to balancing out Varsity Softball, Kiwins Community Services, and working part time I can work and go to school three times a week.
