West County READS is a volunteer-driven community collaborative founded in 2001 which promotes reading success for all West Contra Costa County children. We collect and distribute over 12,000 books each year at local community events and at places families frequent via Take One, Leave One Bookshelves, around the County.
We co-founded and coordinate the annual Richmond Tales Festival: An Afternoon of Family Literacy and Healthy Living.
We also created the Literacy Calendar, published from 2003-2009, which listed all literacy programs at local libraries and in the community. Since 2015 we have supported Camp Achieve with oral reading and book giveaways to reduce summer learning loss.
